EATtFresh Aquaponics is a state-of the-art food production facility that is pushing the boundaries of climate smart sustainable agriculture by seamlessly integrating aquaculture with hydroponics techniques, creating an efficient system that produces fresh, organic vegetables and freshwater fish.
This innovative approach uses 96% less water compared with traditional soil-based farming, and the facility’s operations is powered by renewable solar energy.
EATtFresh a social enterprise created through a partnership between two non-profit agencies ; Freshministries (Be The Change Africa) and Conservation South Africa. EATtFresh was established with the intent of addressing socio-economic and environmental challenges faced by rural communities within the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere Reserve in Mpumalanga South Africa.
Located in Acornhoek, EATtFresh’s vision is to build hope, restore dignity, change lives, improve food security, and transform the socio-economic status of communities in South Africa using innovative farming technology. Through EATtfresh, local communities are empowered, and health of the ecosystems is restored for the enhancement of sustainable development.
Our goal is to sustain the green enterprise, create jobs and make our employees and beneficiaries plus the local community more self-sustainable economically, whilst being climate smart and resilient, providing green skills and uplifting the most marginalised.
We provide training and mentorship to community members (with a strong focus on women and youth) interested in working within an aquaponics production system or starting their own aquaponics production unit.We also offer opportunities for them to supplement production for EATt Fresh as outgrowers.
We facilitate the commercial farming of vegetables and fresh – water fish grown for sale to niche markets targeting the high – end eco-tourism sector built around the Kruger National Park and local retailers in Acornhoek and Hoedspruit in South Africa.
